Hot Mama Monday: Illamasqua Freak Perfume Review

Image
You know when you get a fragrance that is so delicious, so intoxicating, so all encompassing, that you find yourself sniffing your wrist with that closed eye glee of rapturous contentment while your office companions wonder what is wrong with you.  That pretty much describes what I've look like for the last month since purchasing this scent.  I really can't get enough of it. It's alluring, subtle yet strong, both masculine and feminine, also somehow very what the color of dark purple should smell like.  It's like being in a garden at midnight surrounded by nigh blooming flowers with a full moon over head and a gentle breeze wafty their scent all around you. Okay, I'm not the greatest at describing scents so here's the specific break down from Illamasqua for those scent-philes out there. Top notes: Black Davana, Opium Flower and Belladonna bewitch the senses into uncontrollable lust and passion.  Heart notes: Poison H...

Butter London Powder Finish Foot Crème Review

Image
I'll be the first to admit I'm horrible at staying on top of taking care of my feet.  My pedi visits started off on a good note.  I was going every 2 weeks but as life infringed it turned into once a month and then once in a blue moon.  It's not that I don't love getting my feet done, on the contrary I adore it.  I just have a knack for letting something else get in the way of me getting precious foot VIP time.  I've been on the hunt for a lotion to fill those gaps for keeping my feet soft and my callouses less scaly.  Normal foot lotion wasn't cutting it and powder was causing too much mess all over everything.  Enter Butter London Powder Finish Foot Crème, an answer to my prayers.  I talked myself into trying this during one of my I MUST OWN EVERY BUTTER LONDON POLISH ON THE MARKET AND IT MUST BE NOW purchases at Ulta.  Spontaneous buy?  All my purchases tend to be that way, much to my family's chagrin.  Any way, I figured what...

Lush Lovely Jubblies Cream Review

Image
I wanted to love you, I really did.  I wanted to love you so bad that I bought you again and kept trying.  You smelled okay in the tub and your scent didn't linger on the skin too long thankfully.  You applied evenly but your recommendations for a little goes a long way I found untrue.  For a while I thought you were working, but then realized my only changes to my routine besides you were application.  Namely I applied the cream working in upward direction instead of down on my girls.  Kind of a no brainer there, if you want the skin to look youthful you apply up and not drag the skin down.  Did my ample bosom appear firmer and more youthful?  Not that I could tell nor the critical eye of my man.  I thought maybe we were missing something and so I stopped about halfway through my second tub and went back to normal body lotion but kept the application technique the same.  Again no noticeable difference.  I wasn't expecting the twin...

Geeky Clean TARDI-Soap, it's bigger on the inside

Image
Did I mention this is Will Wheaton approved?  Oh I haven't, well cause it is.  And why not!  Scented with a delicate vanilla custard scent I at first found it to be both spicy and sweet.  A sort of musky and bubble gum type flavor, almost like what you would expect the TARDIS to smell like, all mystery and mirth.

Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover

Image
Miracle work horse in a bottle, oh you betcha!  Neutrogena has changed everything I ever thought about cleaning my face with a two in one product that works like a charm.  I have to say I was very pleased when I started using it.  Within the first week the few blemishes I did have cleared up, but it took me till the second week to really see major results.  My redness had gone down dramatically, my face had that glow that I had not seen since my pre-acne youth, the skin bumps were vanishing, and my pores were starting to look smaller.  Even on closer inspection of my nose I could tell the pores were much cleaner than any nose strip could ever have hoped to achieve.

To Fake Bake or Not to Fake Bake

Every summer I struggle with this dilemma.  Should I buy some tanning lotion or should I just lay out and try to get some sun.  See the problem with my job and lifestyle is very little sun is involved.  I work in a windowless office, many times in very cold comm rooms or server floors which also have no windows and means my work garb is mainly long pants.  My home life is either spent in front of the computer or the television or catching up on cleaning, laundry, etc etc.  The little time I do go outside I tend to lean towards wearing pants mostly cause I'm attempting to hide my bright white legs (as well as my hips).  I always say I am going to get more sun but I just never seem to do it.

Spa Saturday - Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque

Image
I first discovered Queen Helene in my Grammie's medicine cabinet.  I was about 8 or so and I remember thinking how cool it's going to be when I'm grown up enough to use it.  I didn't think about Queen Helene till it was mentioned in an article as being one model's go to face saving secret to stay fresh during the hectic events of Fall Fashion week.  I ran out to Ulta that day and picked up a bottle to try.

MAC Wonder Woman Collection - Initial Thoughts

First off I updated the previous entry with Temptalia.com Blush, Mineralize Skinfinish, Lipstick, and Lipglass Comparison and Dupes links as well as her Overall Recommendations for the MAC Wonder Woman Collection.  Go check it out HERE .  Now for how I'm feeling...I'll be honest I'm really not.  Temptalia does some fabulous, detailed, and thorough reviews of products and I trust her viewpoints.  She didn't even list a single product as a "Must Have" from this collection and that is saying something about the quality, or lack there of.  MAC what are you doing?  I have been waiting, saving, lusting after this collection for a year and now...now I look and I'm lucky if I'll be getting even a couple of products.  And so many of these are repromotes, granted I don't have those shades, but hardly anything new or limited edition.  It just saddens me a great deal.  Tons of great packaging, I was overlooking the steeper price in lieu of getti...

Giftmas Quest 2010 - My Cosmetics Wishlist

I'm not greedy.  Well maybe a little but who isn't at times.  You know you have a list somewhere, mental or written down of all the lovely and awesome things you'd get for yourself if you had endless supplies of cash to spend.  I didn't write that list here, I just picked a few items I really want off of it.  Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencils - I know they aren't out yet but if they were the first thing on my list would be Urban Decay's new 24/7 Shadow Pencils.  Swatched and reviewed Here (Part 1) and Here (Part 2)  by Temptalia.  I want them cause they are the same amazing quality as Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliners and they are super easy to apply.  Perfect for those of us that want some color in the morning without having to spend a lot of time doing their make-up.  Or for those of us that are running perhaps perpetually late and need to trim down their make-up routine some. *looks innocent and whistles* Benefit All You Need Is Gloss - Re...

Giftmas Quest 2010 - Etsy Shops

I decided to take some time create a few posts entitled Gitmas Quest 2010.  These posts will be filled with gift ideas, shops, items I've gotten and would recommend, websites, Etsy shops, whatever I feel like that will help you out this Holiday in the gifts department. This post is comprised of Etsy shops I've favourited or have made purchases from.   I've categorized them and added a short blurb for each of what I like about each of these shops. Clothing BRANDED - The Vintage Dad shirt is what caught my eye.  But I fell in love with the Grr Argh! Whedon Monster shirt! taraduff - Do you also have a teen that wishes he could grow an entire beard instead of the tufts of down he's sporting now?  Help him along this Holiday with a bearded knit cap. BabyEtte - I don't have a baby of my own but I've always seen the baby carrier sling things and thought they were so cute.  Well here you can find one to match not only your style but your outfit too! Shri...

FTW! Friday's the Win!! FTW!

FTW or Friday's the Win is a recurring theme every Friday.  Since everyone looks forward to Friday's arrival each week I figured it'd be a good time to share with everyone here at Geek Faerie what made your week filled with extra awesomeness!  Maybe you finally met Neil Gaiman.  (insert OMG fangrrl squee!)  Maybe you finished all of Fable III and saved Albion!  Or maybe you found that elusive and discontinued MAC lipstick on E-bay and it didn't cost you an arm, leg, and your first born child.  Whatever it is that made your week tell us all about it here. For me it was finally getting my Sigma Make-up brushes   and my Lush haul! From Sigma I got the Synthetic Face kit, the Complete kit with black brush roll, the Hollywood Glamour Retractable Kabuki in Black, and the Lip brush.  I have been wanting to get these brushes for a long time now.  I've been reading reviews, watching youtube videos, and trolling the site to drool.  I curr...

Ms. Pixie's Hairy Fairy, a Ladies Chocolate Shaving Bar Review

Image
Bath drawn, check Reading book, check Gillette Venus 3 with a new blade, check Geeky Clean's Hairy Fairy bar, check I wanted to put this product through its paces and my legs not only gave the Hairy Fairy bar quite a challenge but could have posed as the name sake.  To give you a bit of background, I am cursed with a heritage that is both Italian and Polish/Lithuanian which resulted in my leg hair being thick, coarse, and dark.  Shaving is a process that I dread cause it is never quick and easy.  When I first stumbled upon the Hairy Fairy I was intrigued.  Could this product be the one that solves so many of my shaving woes?  The answer is yes.  I opened up the wrapping on the bar and took a nice long sniff.  Heavenly!  It was chocolatey, rich, creamy, and reminded me a of a perfect fudge brownie.  And that was just the smell.  The bar itself I could tell was handmade and contained more natural ingredients than a regular bar of bran...
