Hot Mama Monday: Illamasqua Freak Perfume Review

Image
You know when you get a fragrance that is so delicious, so intoxicating, so all encompassing, that you find yourself sniffing your wrist with that closed eye glee of rapturous contentment while your office companions wonder what is wrong with you.  That pretty much describes what I've look like for the last month since purchasing this scent.  I really can't get enough of it. It's alluring, subtle yet strong, both masculine and feminine, also somehow very what the color of dark purple should smell like.  It's like being in a garden at midnight surrounded by nigh blooming flowers with a full moon over head and a gentle breeze wafty their scent all around you. Okay, I'm not the greatest at describing scents so here's the specific break down from Illamasqua for those scent-philes out there. Top notes: Black Davana, Opium Flower and Belladonna bewitch the senses into uncontrollable lust and passion.  Heart notes: Poison Hemlock, Datura and Queen of th

Angel & Faith #6 Review

Image
I love it when a story grabs and holds on to you in the first few sentences.  Just grabs you by the collar, shakes you, and screams, "hold on tight!"  You just know that this is going to be the ride of a lifetime.  Writer, Christos Gage, does not disappoint with his opening inner monologue by Angel musing over the grave of Douglas Adams in Angel & Faith #6 .  The story itself is called Daddy Issues and boy is there plenty to go around.  A portion of the story looks into Giles's past, his early days of learning to be a watcher, a quick introduction to some very cool characters, who (in what I call typical Joss Whedon fashion) are then killed off by a horrible beasty in a quite horrid manner.  The result shows the disconnect between Giles's own father and the turning point of him becoming Ripper.  Further along you discover that Faith's own father is searching for her and I am sure that is going to bring a host of nail-biting, page turning goodness.  Let us not

A Game Of Thrones #5 Review

Image
Dynamite's Issue five of A Game of Thrones delves deeper into the thick of things with the stories of Sansa Stark, Lady Catelyn Stark, Lord Eddard Stark, and Bran Stark.  We learn of Sansa's extreme dislike for her sister Arya coupled with her enamorment for her betrothed Prince Joffrey.  When it comes down to it though will she choose blood over love?  Lady Catelyn Stark discovers that secrets travel quickly in the Nine Kingdoms when her news reaches King's Landing even before her ship does.  Could someone on the council know the true purpose behind the attack on Bran's life?  Lord Eddard Stark finds he is standing upon a knife-edge, caught somewhere between Robert his friend and Robert his King.  Can he trust both men, or is one more susceptible to the manipulations of Queen Cersei over the other?  While Brandon Stark learns his real purpose since his fall and finally awakens.  Still what does it all mean when he learns to fly? Daniel Abraham's adaptation ta

Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Promise Part 1 Review

Image
After 3 seasons of following the adventures of Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph across the four kingdoms of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air, fans will finally get to see what happens after the series ends.  In Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Promise Part 1 , we pick up immediately after the end of the series to find our heroes along side Fire King Zuko and Earth King Kuei deciding how best to handle the removal of the Fire Nation colonies.  It's decided that The Harmony Restoration Movement, named by Sokka of course, will uproot and move all the Fire Nation colonists back to their homeland in the Fire nation and out of the Earth Nation territory.  A fine idea to be sure but it's soon realized some things are not as easy as they seem and Aang must learn if he can bring peace to the Movement as well as keep a difficult promise to a friend. The book contains the usual hi jinks of course, coupled with the its ability to tackle big social and economic issues much like the show did.

Blog changes

I'm doing a bit of an overhaul and change to the blog.  While I love talking about make-up I've realized I've let some of my other passions slip to the way side.  Don't fret beauty lovers, I'm still going to post about make-up it just won't be the main focus any more.  In the coming months and weeks, more of my geek loves are going to start to surf along side (I hope) some of my culinary loves too.  I really do want this blog to be about everything I love, so fasten your seat belts duckies!  We're making a hard right, NOW!  <3
